The debut album by Dog is Dead contains 10 tracks. You can get this album from any good online music seller, I picked my copy for £8 from itunes.
The album itself is very well structured. It starts quite slow with ‘Get Low’. The song has a very nice jazzy bassline. It then progresses onto a much faster song called ‘Do The Right Thing’. It contains allot of oooooing, which is great to join in with. I am sure the audience at Rock City, when Dog Is Dead plays there next year, will be bellowing out the oo’s.
‘Do the Right Thing’, showcases Robert Milton’s talents as the lead vocalist for the five piece. The best-known track from the album is probably the ‘Glockenspiel Song’, having been released as a single and featured in an episode of ‘Skins’. In my humble opinion, this is the best track on the album. I would go as far as to say, it is worthwhile getting the album just for this song.
The only draw back of the album in its entirety, is that the three main themes are indie pop predictable: breaking up, getting back together again and talking through the night. At times, the album struggles, due to the limited themes. It is what it says on the tin, a light hearted Indie Pop album that makes for an easy listen. These guys are just at the beginning of what could be a very long career in music.
For what its worth I recommend that you purchase this album because a) It’s good. b) you would be supporting a local band and c) their popularity is set to increase if they continue making such good albums, get in there early.
