I woke up this morning and unlike the past couple of weeks, there was actually other news being reported. It was like the whole world had stood still, but unbeknown to most people, there was definitely other things going on, they just didn’t want us to know about it. The closing ceremony was a big disappointment as well as a big distraction and I didn’t even watch to have to know. Don’t believe me, check this out.

So much money went into the Olympic Games, more money than this country can afford, yet the NHS is making huge cut backs as well as the Armed Forces amongst other things. Once again we sit back and allow it all to happen without any questions. Isn’t it time we woke up from our slumber and took notice of what we are being fed economically and politically, we don’t have to know much about politics to realise what’s right from what’s wrong. If you’re unsure about this statement ask a politician, they’d never lie to you.

I’ve always made sure that my kids, got involved with sports, regardless of whether it’s in the school curriculum or not. It’s up to us as parents to see about the well being of our children…. My kids constantly tell me that I try and live my sporting dreams through them…. Yeah right, if that was the case, I’d need a bigger house to showcase the trophies… Don’t they get it, the need to win…? Win….. But no pressure though eh. So now that the Olympic flag has officially been passed over to Rio in Brazil, (It‘s going to be interesting where they hide the people living in the Favelas that are in a prime real estate plot which overlooks the sea), we are left with the aftermath. More “magic” money is going to be ploughed into schools etc but where this magic money has come from is anyone’s guess.

Who has the billions of money that has gone into the Olympics gone too is more to the point… How can the five rings placed on London Bridge cost £350.000? Who got paid for it? Well whoever they are they’re laughing all the way to the bank. The amount of money ploughed into the opening and closing entertainment (if you can call it that) was astronomical, yet if I go over drawn by £1, I receive a letter from the bank which will then cost me £30, which causes more problems, they end the letter with the words, if we can help in anyway let us know…… Yeah…. Stop flipping charging me and getting me into more debt. That would work. Then maybe I could actually have a life…. But I’m not bitter.

As I’m Counting out some money from my penny jar so that I can get the bus to work, I see on the news that a couple have won £148m, now I’m not being a hater towards them, because as they say, “you’ve got to be in it to win it”. Yet in the next breath, we hear that suicide rates have rocketed due to the economic downturn around 13,000 people in England between 2008 and 2010, yet two people win £148m….. Where’s the right balance.

You and I both know that more than £148m went into the pot, so where has the rest of the money gone? What steps are the government taking to ease the pressure? Answer = nothing. Where’s the love. A friend of mine got all excited because he received a tax rebate only to find that the government had sent him a tax bill a few days later for the same amount. That was the day I saw a grown man cry… It wasn’t pretty.

My next door neighbour has two children who have reached university age, for years she spoke about how she couldn’t wait for them to leave home and go to university so that she could have her life back, now due to the extravagant fees, it looks like her dream is slipping through her fingers and that‘s no mean feat, she‘s got ands like mallets. She’d even bought her celebration outfit, which she says she might not be able to wear now. I told her about the financial incentives that the government are offering students such as free laptops, yearly bursaries etc, the catch is, it’s only being offered to middle ranking students with two A grades and one B grade at A level, so if her kids didn’t make the grade then they are screwed.

Has the government actually thought about lowering the price of student fees, now there’s an incentive right there… I think my neighbour has lost faith in her kid’s abilities, she went out and bought a load of tippex to doctor their results, I didn’t have the heart to tell her that such things are computerised. She’d better get started on her extension, those kid’s aren’t going anywhere for some time….. Bless.

If we knew our family and friends were struggling, what would we do to help them? Or would we? What about a stranger? It’s not just about money; a kind word can change someone’s day. Let’s be that change.
