Ever wondered if you could purchase anything decent for under a pound in the UK? Do you think that we are rip off Britain, well PUN have sent two researchers of around the world to see what they can buy for 80 Pence, there's nothing quite like playing FTSE underneath the table.
Shanghai is a highly populated city and at this time of the year the weather can mirror that of the UK. During my visit it was extremely cold and quite grey. China is a fascinating place and is steeped in history. Although Shanghai is a relatively new city compared to Beijing it is none the less worth a visit and has a high expat community. That being said this destination is not for those with complexes of being stared at! This is China and I would say that this is reflected by 96% of the population, anyone who looks different causes some ‘interest’ and being black means that you almost become something of a celebrity in that some Chinese will get their cameras out to take a picture! So what did my 80 pence buy me? Travelling around is easy and very cheap in Shanghai and I managed to get from Pudong to Pu xujiahui a total of 26 miles for 80pence. Eating is also very cheap and for those of us who are adventurous 80pence will buy you a Chinese takeaway of rice, chicken and vegetables.
